The songs of the historic criminal underworld of Sicily southern Italy, known as “canto di malavita” (songs of the bad life) weave rich narratives of struggle, revenge, imprisonment, love and loss into simple but arresting melodies that transport listeners to a different time and place from the first strummed chord. These songs are essentially never performed live either in Italy or anywhere else in the world; please join us as we share these compelling melodies and the stories that accompany them here in Portland for this rare performance.
