First things first. April 28th, 2011 we present Mark Tipton, one extremely talented gentleman currently residing in humble Portland, Maine, but not for so much longer. Thursday, the 28th is slated to be a farewell to this sir as he performs the music of Bob Dylan with a star-studded crew of Portland All-Stars (including Joel Eckhaus, Carl Dimow, Dave Noyes, Aleric Vincent Nez, Sam Furth, and a full rock band with Max Cantlin, Jim Lyden, Gary Gemmiti, Cartwright Thompson, Ben Noyes, and Jimmy Dorrity). This won’t be your typical guy-with-an-accoustic-guitar at an open mic experience, but rather an intelligent arrangements of many different instruments and stylings. You don’t want to miss your chance to see Tipton live as he commands melodies from the bell of his horn; his presence will be sorely missed but we wish him the best of luck in NYC.

Opening the night will be Apohadion Recording artist Aleric Nez. Nez winds and releases tunes of impeccable and contemporary beauty. His soul could be the wit of a new folk generation while borrowing ingredients from old country and folk song scribes. His arrangements are spot-on every time, adding to the allure of his finely-crafted tunes. Aleric’s latest release on 12″ vinyl is a personal current favorite of mine, the penman present. Listen to his efforts:http://apohadionrecords.bandcamp.com/
Show will begin at 8pm. We’ll be asking for a 5 dollar donation for the musicians and The Apohadion.

Secondly;
On Friday, April 29th, we host Grass Widow with Broken Water, Village of Spaces and The Rattlesnakes.
Grass Widow (San Fran.), after making quite the name for themselves on their home coast west, have been migrating about this country, charming at every stop. Music that is never tired, weaving itself into and out of and into obscurity with just enough psychedelia to bring you to an ethereal plain with enough of a backbone to keep your heels close to earth with voices that flirt with the upper stratus. GW has appeared on the labels Make A Mess, Captured Tracks and Kill Rockstars (www.myspace.com/grasswidowmusic)
In town for the evening to add expanse to an already great show is Broken Water (Olympia). Broken Water combines shoegaze with something ungazed upon, touched with grunge. (http://www.myspace.com/brokenagua)
From Belfast Maine I’m very, very excited to have Village of Spaces back to town. Outsider folk music from the Beckman-Moon family. (http://ukeofspacescorners.blogspot.com/)
The Rattlesnakes, a favorite amongst local critics and fans to boot play this one as well. Despite the disclaimer buried somewhere on their Myspace profile that they no longer use that particular social networking site I think you can still hear some tracks on it. (www.myspace.com/therattlesnakes)
This show will begin near the prompt side of 8 pm. Please bring 7 or 8 dollars as a donation so we can give these guys all they deserve. See you on Friday.
